Dream Analysis 101: Helping Your Clients to a Life of Depth and Meaning Through Understanding Their Dreams

Dan Keusal, MS, LMFT

September 15, 2017

The dreams our clients have at night show us the intentions of their own unique psyche, their deepest, wisest, best selves. Dreams open up a door to the unconscious, to spirit, to the gods and goddesses within. Dreams reveal what the waking ego is missing, offer clues about the places in life where our clients feel stuck, and show how they can best move forward. But the language of dreams is not the language of our everyday, waking life. It is the language of symbol and metaphor, a language we need help to understand in a world that focuses almost exclusively on literal approaches—to therapy, and to life. This lecture will explore how to remember dreams, how to understand the important messages they bring, and how to turn those messages into life-giving actions that will infuse the lives of our clients with depth and meaning.

Dan Keusal, M.S., LMFT, is a past president of SCA, and is now in his 25th year as a Jungian Psychotherapist in Seattle. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. He has been invited to speak to a wide range of organizations, including Microsoft, Re/Max Northwest Realtors, The Puget Sound Career Development Association, and dozens of other businesses, churches, and community groups. He also has extensive experience offering trainings to therapists, including presentations to the C.G. Jung Society Seattle, Kent Youth & Family Services, WAMFT Networking Luncheons, the Washington Pastoral Counseling Association, and the graduate therapy program at Bastyr University. Dan is passionate about baseball, movies, poetry, and coffee and is an accomplished photographer and musician. For more about Dan and his work, visit
